Water Leak Detection

20,000 square km coverage

We successfully delivered a leak detection project to a UK Water Company, for which we sourced data covering 20,000 km2 and developed algorithms to identify potential leaks.

Identification of potential leaks

Advanced analysis techniques

We used techniques such as Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to detect leaks in the system, by correlating healthy vegetation in the vicinity of the pipes.

NDVI involves the observation of distinct colours of visible and near-infrared sunlight reflected by plants, to determine the density of green within the area being studied.

Further customers

This work was later extended to two further water companies.
